Abstract

Pharmacovigilance plays a critical role in monitoring the safety and effectiveness of medicines after their introduction into clinical use. Adverse drug reactions can result in increased morbidity, healthcare costs, treatment discontinuation, and hospitalization. This paper examines the importance of pharmacovigilance systems in identifying, assessing, documenting, and preventing adverse drug reactions. It discusses spontaneous reporting, electronic health records, patient participation, and healthcare-professional involvement in improving medicine safety. The study emphasizes the importance of timely reporting and effective communication between healthcare professionals, regulatory authorities, and patients. Strengthening pharmacovigilance practices can contribute significantly to safer and more rational medication use.
